From the hit podcast The Past And The Curious comes a fun new chapter book for kids (and adults) all about fascinating individual animals and the history they made!
Who doesn’t love a true story about the elephant whose unique name we unknowingly say every day? Or what about the 1700’s European fashion icon, Clara the Rhino? What’s not to love about the perplexing case of Penelope the escaping platypus? Or the once-stray terrier named Owney and his famous trip around the globe? It’s time these creatures got the credit they deserve.
Much like The Past And The Curious podcast, this book will appeal to a wide range of curious readers.
Tails! (working title) will be an easy read for elementary school kids (grades 3-6), but also a great book for younger kids to read with a grownup (and honestly, adults who just like fun stuff). It will have eleven chapters (avg. 3200 words per), each one in digestable and convenient chunks. Each chapter thematically connects a group of real-life animals by their accomplishments and historic moments with humor and context.
The structure of the book means you can read in 5-minute chunks, or dive in for more. Of course you, or a child in your life, may find the need to plop down and read the whole thing all at once.
It’s a traditional paperback and will probably wind up around 175-200 pages. Black and white illustrations from Suki Anderson will accent the writing. There will also be fun infographics, and visually accented top ten lists spread throughout.
Tails! is a fun collection of the most remarkable animals to run, fly, and swim into our history books. It’s perfect for middle grade readers, curious kids who like bursts of info, and grown-ups and children who want to share some delightful moments and laugh along. You’ll meet hundreds of them through curious shorts, humorous deeper dives, top ten lists, featured focuses, illustrated infographics, and a few absurd, completely made up awards.
Who will win the award for most eponymous elephant? (Spoiler: It’s Jumbo)
